Helens Cave, New Mexico

Eric Pelkey in Helens Cave, December 2017

Helens Cave is a small but decorated cave in the Carlsbad Caverns National Park backcountry.  The cave's entrance is a 35ft pit rigged by a nearby juniper tree.  Use a lot of rope pads.  The cave is short, but decorated.  The entrance faces southwest and gets a lot of sunlight.  Even in January the cave's interior reaches well over 70°F.  It is very hot.
